Betão, having served as both a player and a coordinator, spent a total of seven years with Avaí. In an announcement made on Wednesday morning (27), Avaí confirmed the departure of the beloved figure who had been working as the technical coordinator for the youth categories. Combining his time as an athlete and his roles off the field, Betão dedicated seven years to Avaí. As per the statement released by the Santa Catarina-based team, the former center-back has accepted an offer from another club.
“We appreciate Betão for his dedication and commitment throughout these years with Avaí, whether as a player or in his managerial role with the youth teams. We wish him success in his new endeavors and will always keep the doors of Ressacada open for him,” stated Avaí’s president, Júlio César Heerdt.
According to information from NSC TV journalist Rodrigo Faraco, Betão has accepted an offer from Fortaleza. The ex-defender joined Avaí in 2016 and played for the club until the end of the 2022 Campeonato Catarinense when he retired from professional football. In total, he participated in 271 matches for the Santa Catarina team.
“After seven intense years, I express my gratitude to everyone—fans and staff—for the warmth and friendship since my arrival. The time has come to put a comma in our story. I will always remain a supporter of the club’s success. With the certainty that I will return one day, I bid a temporary farewell. Thank you very much, Avaí, and thank you, Avaí Nation,” conveyed Betão in the club’s official statement.
